This article reviews the legal framework and the procedures for appraising forests as well as the professional standards and guidelines for appraisers of forest property and timber stands. The article focuses on valuation procedures that apply to forest property zoned for forestry production on a small market. The procedure of appraising woodland and timber stands intended for public development (roads, railways, etc.), forests in  the Eastern Borderlands (a historical region of the Second Republic of Poland), and forests zoned for private and business development (summer cottages, residential property, services) was described. The process of appraising forest property and timber stands for non-forest-related uses is also presented.
