Silvarum Colendarum Ratio et Industria Lignaria

Background. Our paper presents the results of measurements and observations of growth of sessile oak (Quercus petrea (Matt.) Liebl.) on the experimental plots established in the Łopuchówko Forest District.

Material and methods. Three variants of oak regeneration were evaluated. The first variant assumed group sowing of acorns at the spacing 1,5 m x 0,25 m.  The second variant concerned the planting of 1 year old seedlings (Db 1/0) planted at the spacing of 1,5 x 0,5 m. The third variant concerned the planting of 3 year old oak seedlings (Db 3/0) vat the same spacing as in the second variant. Geographic location 52°59’70’’N i 17°07’90’’E.

Results. Pears dominate in 11-year-old cultivation grown from three-year-old seedlings (variant 3 - Db3/0), which on average reach over 5.11 m. Oaks grown from annual oak seedlings (variant 2 - Db1/0) reach the average height 4.11 m, while bred with sowing the glans 4.17 m (variant 1).

Conclusion. Our results proved that the sowing of acorns may be the alternative methods for oak regeneration with one year seedlings as well as with older seedlings.
