The horse chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella) is a pest that attacks the horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) population in Europe, causing the loss of chlorenchyma. Favourable environmental conditions and a small number of natural enemies allow the pest to spread rapidly. The paper presents the potential to obtain information on the degree of leaf infestation by the pest based on the analysis of spectral reflectance
recorded with a contact sensor in the optical spectrum. Spectral characteristics of leaves with different degrees of pest infestation were determined and values of vegetation indices NDVI850,650 and NDVI850,720 were calculated, the latter showing a stronger relationship with the degree of leaf infestation (R2 at 0.88). The results indicate great potential applicability of remote sensing methods toassess and monitor the health status
of horse chestnut trees.
