Hylastinus obscurus (Marsham, 1802) is a rarely observed species in Poland. So far, the reports concerned single individuals. The site in Warsaw in Ursynów is the first one where such number of individuals (53 beetles) were observed. The beetles were caught in an entomological net between 12-2 pm, in warm and sunny weather. The host plant that dominated the site was red clover Trifolium pratense L. Hylastinus obscurus develops in the roots of plants of the following genera: Trifolium spp., rarely Melilotus spp., Medicago spp., Cytisus spp. and Onobrychis spp. In United States and Chile the species is considered as a pest of T. pratense crops.
