CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FORESTER’S POSITION IN THE STATE FORESTS AS AN EXAMPLE ON THE EXAMPLE OF SELECTED FOREST DISTRICTS – A PILOT STUDY

Abstract

The size and scope of economic tasks at the forester's position result from natural and geographical conditions, or the seasonality of work depending on the season. The aim of the work was to attempt to create a description of the forester's position in the State Forests in terms of duties performed, work time organization and perceived job satisfaction.

Based on a pilot survey (38 questions) conducted among 21 foresters from two forest districts, a description of this managerial position was made. In the opinion surveys about the job position, a five-point Likert scale was used, and the remaining questions included open-ended and closed-ended questions.

The research showed that for 62% of the surveyed people, working as a forester is a challenge. A large bureaucracy of work was observed, which may result from an excess of procedures, legal regulations or the organizational structure of the surveyed companies. Solutions should be introduced to improve the organization of work time at the forester's position. A beneficial solution may be the introduction of, among others, greater digitalization at the forester's position. The surveyed people who confirmed feeling satisfaction with their position were mainly people with longer work experience ranging from 21 to 30 years and more. As a result of excessive workload, the commitment to work and job satisfaction of foresters may decrease.
